Unedited from WIP. Second book in the River Wolf Pack series.
Jax stepped back, alarmed, as David leaped forward, paws on the ground, nose in the air, sniffing and displaying sharp canines as he growled. Something was out there. Something or someone. David had learned early on that, while his snow-white coat was unusual and certainly attractive, the way it shined like a beacon for all and sundry to see could make it a real liability. If he wasn’t so aware of Jax standing behind him and the strong need to keep his lover safe, David might take a few seconds to roll in the dirt to mute his shining coat. As it was, he crouched and snarled as the scent of danger came closer.
